Training the horses from the ground course - part 1
September 2012
A horse should be sociable, polite and respectful whilst of course retaining its character and individuality. So it is important that certain ground rules and boundaries are put in place. This is not done by way of domination but by letting a horse learn which behavioural options are the most comfortable to live with; a horse should be encouraged to follow the right path with correct, positive and confident direction from the trainer
This training starts from the ground, hence the aim of the course was to teach the participants to read the horse's body language plus to be aware of the effect one owns body language has on the horse - knowingly or unknowingly.
A large part of the course was to introduce the participants of the ideal horse and how it is supposed to move.
For this lunge work was introduced, which correct and efficiently executed encourages the horse to go forward with impulsion, rhythm and pace, which aids the horse to improve its balance and co-ordination.
